The CIPHE: keeping visible and vocal

An early incarnation of the industry’s professional magazine

When asked for advice, a famous composer explained that if you want to be successful, you have to show up. For a membership organisation like ours, that means being visible and vocal about the issues that matter to its members.

The Institute has been in existence since 1906 and has included a membership publication since merging with the Registered Plumbers Association in 1970. The 48 years since then have seen a number of changes along the way, and now the time is right for a new development.

We have teamed up with James Pembroke Media and Chris Smith as editor – who between them boast extensive experience and personal interest in the membership and construction sectors – to create a magazine that reflects your needs and industry changes. This exciting update brings our publication to where we want it to be. It will position the CIPHE and our members at the heart of debates on the future of the plumbing and heating industry and use our collective ability to positively impact matters of public policy, safety and wellbeing.

Ringing the changes

With that in mind, I want to start where you did – the front cover. There has been a subtle change to the title of our publication; from P&HE journal to P&H Engineering. This new masthead is a signal of intent regarding the content and priorities for the magazine. It will provide us with more opportunities to source valuable professional content on the subjects that matter most to our members, stakeholders and readers. Our new-look edition is not the end of our journey in developing a publication to meet your needs. We are already planning for the introduction of a new P&H Engineering website, too. Your opinion matters, so I welcome feedback on what you have seen this month, and suggestions on subjects you would like to see tackled in the future. Simply email me at the address, above. Even better, when you contact me, why not put yourself or a colleague forward for inclusion if they have a valuable story to share. The CIPHE is a membership body and we are at our best when listening to and engaging with you, our members. We’re stronger together and that means we’ve all got to show up.
